Louisiana Tech's soccer team is once again giving back to the local community by offering free soccer camps.
Those interested in the camps conducted by head coach Kevin Sherry and the Lady Techster soccer team have two options to choose from. One is for members of the Ruston Girls Soccer Club that meets every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The club is free to join for girls ages 8-14. Those interested in joining the Ruston Girls Soccer Club should contact Jacqueline Bean at email@example.com.
For boys and those not wanting to be a member of the club, Sherry and his staff will hold free soccer clinics periodically throughout the summer. The clinics are for boys and girls of all ages. Stay tuned to LATechSports.com for dates to be announced.
All camps will be held at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex located across the street from the Charles Wyly Athletic Center.
It will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday night with a two-hour soccer session featuring a mixture of technical soccer drills to help develop technical and tactical play which in turn can be used as a foundation to learn one's role on the team according to position. The camp will carry over into Saturday morning with another two-hour soccer session beginning at 8 a.m.
The campers will also participate in small-sided and full-sided games and will receive additional information from the LA Tech soccer staff on topics such as how to approach the recruiting process, player development and the demands and expectations placed upon a college student-athlete.
Goalkeepers will also get the special privilege of getting to work with assistant coach Josh Wagenaar for two separate 30-minute goalkeeping sessions during the day. Coach Wagenaar has played professionally as a goalkeeper in some of Europe's top leagues and has also represented his country at the national level.
He currently has his NSCAA Level 3 goalkeeping certificate. His experience and knowledge of the goalkeeping position makes this a "must not miss event" for those goalkeepers looking to play at the next level.
The cost of the two-day camp is $65 (overnight stay not provided). The price includes a camp T-shirt.For more information, contact assistant coach Josh Wagenaar at (318) 512-5505 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
