Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex

"
Situated next to the Joe Aillet Field House and the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex at Louisiana Tech University are eight brand new lighted tennis courts.

Construction on the facility began in March 2008 and concluded in August 2008. On Oct. 15, 2008, the women's tennis team played and swept Grambling State University in their inaugural match at the new facility.

Tech head women's tennis coach Quintin Yray believes the courts are a terrific addition to the university, his tennis team and the community.

"We have one of the finest universities and tennis facilities in the south region," Yray said. "The community of Ruston and Lincoln Parish should be proud of the new tennis courts at Louisiana Tech."

One of many improvements is the location of the complex as it is situated behind the track facility. The track provides a barrier from the northerly winds and is a major plus for the team.

"The tennis courts are located at an ideal place," Yray said. "At our old facility, the wind came from all different directions."

The old tennis courts contained a lighting system that was situated in between the courts. The lighting system at the new complex evenly covers the entire facility.

"The color scheme of the courts is also very attractive," Yray said. "It is similar to the U.S. Open. One benefit of the scheme is it makes it easier for players to track the ball."

As the sports facilities and the university continue to grow, the results will be tremendous on many levels.

"The tennis courts and the overall improvement of the university will have a big impact on Louisiana Tech tennis," Yray said. The courts will help us with recruiting more top athletes for years to come."

On Nov. 1, 2008, Tech President Dr. Dan Reneau dedicated the facility and announced it as the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex.
