Dr. Donna Thomas Accepted as Participant for 2016 Division I FAR Institute
April 12, 2016 RUSTON – Dr. Donna Thomas, Louisiana Tech Faculty Athletics Representative and chair of the LA Tech Athletics Council, was nominated and selected to take part in the 2016 Division I FAR Institute.
She will represent Conference USA at the Institute which will be held May 18-20 at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, Indiana which is going on its sixth year of existence.
"I was honored to be nominated by Conference USA and look forward to representing the conference and Louisiana Tech University,” Dr. Thomas said. “This is an exciting opportunity to network with and learn from FAR leaders from other universities and the NCAA staff. I am grateful for the chance to participate."
The Institute is designed to enhance the ability of FARs to perform their roles effectively on campus, within the league and within the governance structure of the NCAA.
“Donna’s leadership and service as faculty representative and chair of Louisiana Tech’s Athletics Council has been tremendous, and I am pleased that she has been selected to represent Conference USA at the 2016 Division I FAR Institute,” University president Dr. Les Guice said. “Her advocacy for our student-athletes and her administrative contributions to our athletics department have been critical to the success and growth of our programs. I congratulate Donna and I’m proud that she will represent our conference and our university at this national meeting.”
The Division I FAR Institute Steering Committee chose one faculty athletics representative from each conference to attend the annual event.
Dr. Thomas, who also oversees the Louisiana Tech Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences and is chair of the Hall of Fame Committee, is in her second year as FAR.
