RUSTON - Five Louisiana Tech student-athletes competing in winter sports earned academic all-Western Athletic Conference honors released by the league office on Tuesday.
Josh Goree (Men's Indoor T&F), Mary Kate Hayes (Women's Indoor T&F), Micara Vassell (Women's Indoor T & F), Jelena Vucinic (Women's Basketball) and Matthew Wolfe (Men's Indoor T&F) all earned the academic accolade for their work in the classroom.
In order to be eligible to earn academic all-WAC honors, student-athletes must meet certain criteria, including having completed at least one academic year, having at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and having participated in at least 50 percent of his team's competitions.
Louisiana Tech's student-athletes continue to shine in the classroom as proven by their academic results. This past year, Louisiana Tech saw eight of its 16 NCAA sanctioned programs record their highest multi-year APR rates ever while four of the programs registered their highest single year APR score ever.
Louisiana Tech's student-athletes also recorded a four-year graduation success rate of 72 percent which ranks as the second highest in the state among Division I football-playing public institutions and among the best in the nation (NCAA Federal Graduation Rate Report released October of 2011).
