Athletic Communications Ranks Sixth in National Publications Awards
June 28, 2016
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's Athletic Communications office was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this week as the organization announced its 2015-16 Publications Contest winners. Leading the way was Louisiana Tech’s football game notes, ranked as Best in the Nation.
Of the many awards categories announced by CoSIDA, Louisiana Tech was the only school from Conference USA to receive a publications award and the four honors were the most received by any Louisiana school.
The four awards in total ranks tied for sixth nationally among Division I institutions, ahead of schools like Notre Dame (3), Clemson (2), Oklahoma (2) and Ohio State (1). Kansas State received the most awards with 13 followed by the 12 honors awarded to Kansas. Kentucky (8) and West Virginia (8) tied for third.
Louisiana Tech's football game notes were produced and submitted by Patrick Walsh, associate director of athletic communications at Louisiana Tech, and were deemed the best fall sport game notes packet in the country. Walsh also led a group that included Anna Claire Thomas and Blake Bolin in producing the school’s New Orleans Bowl Media Guide, which ranked second in the country in postseason guides category.
Walsh has now won 14 awards over his seven years at Louisiana Tech with this being his eighth and ninth honor by CoSIDA in his career, respectively. He was recently recognized by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association with the state’s best fact sheet/game notes (football) and best feature story or release. He serves as the primary media contact for football, track and field, cross country and golf.
