Tech Legend Spinks Passes Away
ARLINGTON ? Former Louisiana Tech All-American wide receiver Tommy Spinks passed away Sunday at his home in Arlington following a short illness.
Spinks, 58, played for the Bulldogs from 1966 through 1969.
The Shreveport native teamed up with Terry Bradshaw during is playing days to form one of the most feared tandems in college football while helping lead Tech to the Gulf States Conference championship his senior season.
?Tommy was a Tech legend,? said Tech Athletic Director Jim Oakes. ?He epitomized class as a football player, a businessman and a friend to so many of us.?
Spinks graduated from Louisiana Tech as the program?s all-time leading receiver.
He set two records in the 1968 Grantland Rice Bowl registering 12 receptions for 167 yards.
Arrangements have been made for the memorial service honoring Spinks.
The memorial service will be Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. at St. Barnabas Methodist Church in Arlington.
