RUSTON - Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Bruce Van De Velde has been named the Western Athletic Conference's representative on the Division I-A Athletic Directors Association Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee consists of industry leaders among those who serve in the director of athletics role at Division I-A schools, including a representative from each of the 11 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conferences.
This committee is a service organization that provides and coordinates a comprehensive array of professional services in order to benefit member schools, with the philosophy that as stewards of the profession, athletic directors bear responsibility for all facets of professional administration of the intercollegiate athletic programs within the community of higher education.
"I look forward to the opportunity to serve the Division -A Athletic Director's Association and to support the welfare of student-athletes as well as our profession," Van De Velde said.
Van De Velde has served as the athletics director at Louisiana Tech since January of 2010, and during that time frame, Tech has finished in the top 10 of the Excellence in Management Cup both years while also recording the department's top finish ever in the WAC Commissioner's Cup this past year. Tech also won the 2010 Turnkey PRISM Award which recognizes colleges for managerial excellence across four areas: marketing/branding, fan development, community relations; and customer/client service.
Van De Velde boasts a long history of Division I athletic administration experience, including stints as athletics director at Iowa State and Utah State.
