Since arriving in Ruston in 1974, Nit has called football men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball and was recognized on December 22, 2009 for his 2000th Louisiana Tech broadcast. The West Virginia native has been in the broadcasting business for more than 50 years, spending the past three and a half decades at LA Tech. During his time in Ruston, he also served as the assistant media relations director for the athletics department for 15 years. He was named the 2009 Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. He was also inducted into the Louisiana Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in October of 2011. In addition to providing the play-by-play for the franchise, Nitz serves as the radio broadcaster and the media relations director for the Sioux City Explorers, an independent minor league baseball team in the American Association. During his career, Nitz has also served as the play-by-play man for a number of minor league teams, including teams in the Orioles, Giants and Rangers organizations. His 38 years at LA Tech ranks in the top five in the country among active broadcasters with the same school.
