The Louisiana Tech Athletic Department announced the hiring of Kaitlyn McCanna to serve as the Athletics Academic Advisor for men's and women's basketball.
McCanna has worked closely with NCAA student-athletes at other institutions, most recently as the graduate assistant for the Athletic Academic Center at Texas State where she assisted with the football and men's and women's basketball programs.
Her day-to-day responsibilities included supervising study hall, maintaining and distributing reports and travel letters, providing personal and academic advising, monitoring academic eligibility and degree process and providing effective communication with coaches, administrators, and other supporting faculty.
McCanna served in this capacity for the past two years while also being an assistant women's basketball coach at Texas Lutheran this past season.
She assisted in all aspects of the program including strength and skill training, community service, recruiting and academic monitoring while also instructing personal wellness courses.
The Glendale, Ariz. native received her undergraduate degree in kinesiology from Texas Lutheran in 2011 and her master's degree in health education from Texas State in 2013.
McCanna also obtained a Certificate of Mediation from Texas State in 2012.
