Kane McGuire begins his second year as an assistant media relations director in the Louisiana Tech Media Relations Department. He is the primary contact for men's basketball, women's soccer and women's tennis.
In his first year at LA Tech, McGuire was credited with promoting the Bulldog basketball team to its first AP top 25 national ranking in 28 years and its first ever WAC regular season championship. He helped highlight the team's program record 18-game winning streak en route to a berth in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
McGuire was also credited with promoting netter Joanna Nalborska who earned the program's first ever conference freshman of the year as the tennis team recorded one of the most impressive turnarounds in Tech athletics history. The Lady Techsters posted a 7-1 WAC record after having won only one WAC match since the program joined the league in 2001.
He also had responsibilities of keeping track of game notes for the record-setting football team as well as writing feature stories for the gameday programs.
McGuire's story on wide receiver Hayden Slack and his family's long-standing history as a part of the Bulldog football program won second place in the Best Release category at the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association SID contest.
The Ruston native is a 2006 graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in English.
After graduation McGuire worked at Community Trust Bank for five and a half years as a personal banker, and as a specialist in the account services and loan administration departments.
He was also a staff writer for the Louisiana Tech Rivals website BleedTechBlue.com where he conducted and wrote football recruiting stories and provided game summaries of Lady Techsters basketball.
McGuire resides in Ruston with his wife Kari McGuire of St. Francisville, La., and his 3-year old son Colin.
