Janice Lawrence

One of the most talented and decorated performers in women's collegiate basketball history, Janice Lawrence came to Louisiana Tech in 1981 from Lucedale, Miss. where she had been a prep All-America pick while leading her George County High School team to a four year record of 115-27. In high school she scored 3,352 points, averaging 23.6 points per game....at Louisiana Tech Janice was a major factor in two national championships (1981 and 1982) and two other trips to the Final Four. She finished as Tech's No. 2 all-time scoring leader with 2,403 points, was No. 4 on the rebound chart (1,097) and was the No. 1. Blocker (189) when she departed. Lawrence was chosen first team All-America in 1983 and 1984 and was named the nation's top female player as a senior when she won the Wade Trophy and Champions Player of the Year award. Her amateur career was capped by a berth on the U.S. Olympic team which won the Gold Medal in the 1984 summer Olympics...for the past two years Janice has been playing pro basketball in Italy where she is one of the league's major attractions ....while Janice was here the Lady Techsters posted an overall record of 140-6.
