Joe Williams

Was a three-sport letter winner for Tech, starring on the gridiron, court and diamond. The Winnsboro native was a tackle in football, an outfielder and first baseman for the baseball squad, and a captain for the basketball team. He earned letters in all three sports and played a year of professional ball in 1939 and later played for an amateur team in Texas that won the state amateur championship. Williams played at Southwest Mississippi Junior College before going to LSU for one season and then transferring to Tech. Worked 10 ½ years in the engineering department at Tech. Served as the Executive Secretary of the Engineering Foundation and then retired in 1982. Williams was an outstanding prep athlete at Oak Grove High and then later at Ogden High.
