Zurk Lewis

Was a three-sport letterman while at Tech and later went on to become one of the school's top administrators. A native of Smackover, Ark., Lewis was an outstanding athlete while attending Standard Umsicad High School. He starred in all sports and gave indications of future success at Tech. He played football, basketball and baseball for the Bulldogs and was one of the school's top rated first-year players for all of those sports. He earned a total of 11 letters while playing for Tech teams, but his best sport was baseball, where he was an outstanding pitcher. In 1942, he was named the Assistant Dean of Men until 1951, at which time he was promoted to Dean of Men and remained at the position for 16 years. In 1968, Lewis then was chosen as the Dean of Students before being promoted to Vice President of Student Affairs in 1974. He retired in 1979 after serving his alma mater for 37 years in an administrative capacity.
