Mission Statement

  The underlying philosophy for the Sports Medicine Department is that the health care needs of the student-athlete shall be the first consideration for the members of the Sports Medicine Staff. Furthermore, we expect the athletic trainer who will be providing these services to maintain the highest standards of quality consistent with the National Athletic Trainer's Association Code of Professional Practice, the athletic training licensing statutes of the State of Louisiana, and the Operation Guideline/Procedures and Standing Orders established by the Louisiana Tech University Sports Medicine Staff. We are committed to ongoing evaluation of our athletic health care and educational services so that our student-athletes can be assured the highest quality of athletic health care. Furthermore, we are committed to addressing problems and concerns in a timely manner so the needs of our student-athletes and student athletic trainers can continue to be met. It is our intention to support the program with human and financial resources necessary to accomplish the stated goals of the program.

The Louisiana Tech University Sports Medicine Department delivers traditional athletic training services to the student-athletes of Louisiana Tech University, and delivers educational services to students committed to assisting in the daily functioning of the athletic training facility. The services to be delivered are divided into six domains established by the National Athletic Trainers Association including (1) prevention of injuries, (2) recognition, evaluation and assessment of athletic injuries/illnesses, (3) immediate care of athletic injuries/illness, (4) rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries, (5) health care administration, and (6) professional development. In addition, whenever possible, we will strive to integrate education about athletic injuries and physical fitness to the student-athletes of Louisiana Tech University so that they may be empowered to lead healthier injury-free lifestyles. We are committed to using the most recent advances in technology and continuing education services needed for delivery of these services.
