Graduate Assistantships

 

DESCRIPTION:

Graduate Assistants are responsible for the care and prevention of injuries and will maintain communication with coaches, athletic department personnel, parents, team physicians, and other medical specialists involved with the student athlete. Other duties include athletic training room coverage and management, coverage of practice, home games, and travel, updating medical and personnel files, assisting with administrative duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer, and helping to improve the overall quality of the sports medicine program and facilities. These are ten-month positions that are renewable for two years. The start date is August 1st.

EXPECTATIONS:

Applicants must possess a strong work ethic, loyalty, and excellent communication skills. Applicants must also have a desire, commitment, and understanding of the role of the athletic trainer at the collegiate level. We expect you to have input and involvement in continuing to develop our sports medicine program. When choices and decisions are made we expect you to be a leader in carrying out the team approach to a problem. With the help of our full-time staff and team physicians, graduate assistants will learn about the administration of a team, a medical system, and other business aspects of athletic training to better prepare you for a career in Sports Medicine.

BENEFITS:

Candidates selected for graduate assistantships will receive an out of state tuition waiver and a 10-month stipend in the amount of $9,000. Opportunities are available to work summer camps to supplement income.

GRADUATE STUDY:

In addition to your athletic training responsibilities, you are required to progress towards a Master of Science Degree in Adapted Physical Education, Exercise Science, or Sports Performance. Requirements for admission into the graduate school are based on a combination of your GRE scores and your undergraduate cumulative grade point average. You must score a minimum of 1300 on the following equation of be admitted.

(GPA * 200) + (GRE-V + GRE-Q) = Admission Score

NATABOC Certified or Eligible

Acceptance into the Graduate School at LA Tech
