Rob Gire joined the Louisiana Tech coaching staff in 2013, coaching the throwers.
Gire joined the Louisiana Tech Family after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Arizona over 18 months. He volunteered as a coach at his alma mater after graduating in 2011 with a degree in sociology.
While a thrower for the Wildcats, Gire was a three-time All-Pac 10 honoree. He reached the NCAA Regionals his senior year in both the shot put and the discus and advanced to the NCAA Championships in the shot put in both 2010 and 2011. His senior year, he was ranked 22nd in the nation among all levels (not just collegians) in the shot put.
Gire followed that NCAA Championship appearance as he qualified for the USATF Championships in 2011 and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012.
Prior to joining the Wildcats program, Gire was an all-state junior college discus thrower, graduating from Chabot Junior College in 2008.
A native of Pleasanton, Calif., Gire currently resides in Ruston.
