BATON ROUGE, La. - Mia Adams picked up where she left off and Tramaine Maloney made a good first impression as Louisiana Tech opened the 2016 indoor track and field season at the Purple Tiger Invitational late Friday at the Bernie Mattox Field House in Baton Rouge.

Adams, who qualified for the 2015 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminaries in the long jump, won the event to start 2016 with a mark of 19-8.75 (6.01m) in an event Louisiana Tech finished 1-5-6-7 in. She would also run 7.80 in the 60m dash to finish ninth, one spot and one-hundredth of a second (0.01) away from advancing to the finals.

Maloney, a transfer from Texas Tech that joined the program this year, won the 60m hurdles with a personal record time of 7.98 that he ran in the prelims and then matched in the finals. Maloney had never run sub 8.00 before Friday’s meet.

Both Jermey Hicks and Jarvis Gotch stood out in the 60m dash with Hicks running a personal best 6.77 to finish third in the prelims and Gotch running 6.84 to finish sixth in the prelims. Neither sprinter would start in the finals.

Jaquvis Hart, who won gold in the 400m at the IPC World Championships in Doha last fall, ran 1:22.63 in the 600m run to finish seventh. Brandi Dobbins would finish fourth on the women’s side with a time of 1:38.08 while Kirsten Johnson ran 1:38.69 to finish seventh.
