Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at UAB Blazer Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Louisiana Tech didn't let a late start slow them down as four sprinters and hurdlers advanced through the first round of competition despite a two hour delay at the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Crossplex in Birmingham.
Kim Francis led the way with a 60m hurdles time of 8.57 as she finished third in the A-section prelims to advance to Saturday's finals. She will be joined by Bianca Jackson who advanced with an 8.60 time, finishing sixth.
In the men' s 60m dash, Dennis Richardson ran 6.84 in the A-section prelims to advance with an opening round sixth place finish. He was closely followed by Jermey Hicks' time of 6.85, who will join Richardson in the finals.
In the B-section of the 60m dash, Isaiah Underwood opened his collegiate career at Louisiana Tech by running 6.83 and advancing to Saturday's finals with a fifth-place finish. Devin Henderson placed 11th in that section with a personal best time of 6.96.
In the women's 60m dash, Victoria Wade led the Lady Techsters in the A-section with a top time of 7.74 and a 16th place finish while Brittany Walker ran 7.77 to place 17th. In the B-section, Charla Craddock placed 17th with a time of 7.71.
In the men's 1,000m Tom Stringer finished 15th with a time of 2:40.10.
Taneka Henderson ran 1:17.14 in the women's 500m.
Friday's schedule still had 12 events to be completed as of press time of this report.
