BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Louisiana Tech’s track and field program excelled on the track in the final day of competition at the UAB Blazer Invitational, recording nine top-10 finishes at the Crossplex in Birmingham.
Kim Francis started the day off for the Techsters as she finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.45 while Bianca Jackson followed in fifth place, running 8.67. Francis was only beat by Florida’s Bridgette Owens, who ran a meet record time.
Meanwhile the men notched a trio of top-10 finishes in the 60m dash finals. In the “A” section, Jermey Hicks ran 6.86 to place fifth and Dennis Richardson ran 6.91 to finish sixth. In the “B” section, Isaiah Underwood continued to impress with a time of 6.79, finishing fourth. Hicks also finished seventh in the 200m with a time of 21.93.
Pamela Lee tied the fifth best high jump mark in school history as her height of 5-6.5 (1.69m) placed her fourth overall.
LA Tech entered two relay teams in the women’s 4x400m relay with both excelling on the track. The “B” relay team of Aldresha Bailey, Diamond Every, Danielle Zenon and Mia Adams ran 3:47.77 to finish third overall while the “A” relay team of Charla Craddock, Aminah Blount, Taneka Henderson and Cassie Divin finished fourth with a time of 3:47.93. Only Florida and Florida State ran faster relay times.
Zenon also excelled in the long jump, finishing ninth with a mark of 19-0.75 (5.81m).
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Jan. 18 when the team travels to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M 10 Team Invitational.
