Tech Men Finish Third, Women Place Fifth at Leonard Hilton Invitational

HOUSTON - Louisiana Tech's men's distance medley relay team claimed a win and Tiana Davis won the long jump as the Tech men's track team finished third while the women's team placed fifth at the Leonard Hilton Invitational in Houston Friday.
Tech was aided by a solid performance in the triple jump with three scorers. Jonathan Keys led the way with a 48-0.75 jump that placed him second while Darius Hyacinth finished fourth with a mark of 47-11. Dravius Jones placed sixth with a jump of 45-9.
On the women's side, Davis won the top long jump competition with a mark of 19-8.25. Chelsea Hayes finished fourth in the second long jump competition, jumping 19-8.75.
Tech's women excelled in the 4x400m relay with the "A" team of Shante Benion, Taneka Henderson, Aldresha Bailey and Dominique Crosby running 3:56.38 to finish fourth while the "B" team of Monique Wright, Stacia Hanneman, Chelsea Hayes and Jesseka Jones finished 5th with a time of 3:57.51.
Micarra Vassell finished third in the shot put with a throw of 46-4.75 while Marcella LeBlanc placed seventh with a mark of 41-6.5. Vassell also finished sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 47-5.25.
Tech's women placed 3-4-5 in the triple jump with Brittany Guy leading the way with a mark of 39-5.25. Quatisha Williams placed fourth with a mark of 39-4.5 and Sapphira Brown jumped 39-2.5 to place fifth.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Jan. 22 when the team travels to Jonesboro, Ark. for the Arkansas State Invitational.
