Jarvis Gotch Sets School Long Jump Record, Ranks Second in the World

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Louisiana Tech redshirt junior Jarvis Gotch made his mark in a big way Saturday as he won the long jump at the Texas A&M Team Invitational with a jump that broke a school record and currently ranks second in the world this season.
Gotch's jump of 26-2.75 (7.99m) set a new meet record as he claimed the event title while also ranking first in the nation and second in the world this season. He also finished fifth in the 60m dash with a personal record time of 6.74.
Bianca Jackson won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.59, improving upon her prelims-leading time of 8.63. She was followed by Laticia Watson's eighth-place finish with a time of 9.04 after she ran 8.79 in the prelims.
The Lady Techsters finished 4-5-6 in the triple jump in the meet as the trio was led by Jamelia Johnson (38-10.25/11.84m), followed by Danielle Zenon (37-10.75/11.55m) and rounded out by Denisha Henix (36-10.5/11.24m). Henix was the top finisher in the long jump for LA Tech, jumping 17-11.75 (5.48m) to finish seventh while Marlesia Carey placed ninth with a jump of 17-6.25 (5.34m).
Charla Craddock finished fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.65, improving upon her sixth-place standing after the prelims. Craddock also registered a fourth-place finish in the 200m, running 24.34, while Mia Adams finished eighth with a time of 24.63.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Diamond Every, Craddock, Adams and Cassie Divin finished fourth with a time of 3:44.30, behind only Texas A&M, Baylor and Stephen F. Austin. LA Tech's "B" relay team - comprised of Kirsten Johnson, Victoria Wade, Aminah Blount and LaQuanda James - ran 3:50.45 to finish ninth.
In other men's action, Craig Jones placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 43-7.75 (13.30m) while the 4x400m relay team of Robert Kemp, Jared Shepherd, Brian Elkins and Jordan Patrick ran 3:26.24 to finish 12th.
Louisiana Tech returns to action next week in Nashville, Tennessee as the program will compete at the Vanderbilt Indoor Invitational.
