Louisiana Tech Shines on First Day of Tyson Invitational

Feb. 12, 2010

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Antoinette Cobb finished third in the 60m hurdles, Tiana Davis placed seventh in the long jump and a pair of Bulldogs - Alwayne Green and Jermaine Morris - finished second and fourth, respectively, as Louisiana Tech began the first day of competition at the Tyson Invitational Friday.

Hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randall Tyson Track Center, the Tyson Invitational is one of the most prestigious indoor meets in the country with the best teams in the nation competing.

Cobb ran two NCAA provisionally qualifying times in the 60m hurdles Friday, beginning with a n 8.37 mark that placed her ninth in the prelims as she claimed the last open spot in the finals. Later in the day, Cobb came back and ran a season-best 8.36 in the finals to finish third overall. With those two marks, Cobb has now recorded the five fastest 60m hurdles times of any WAC athlete this season.

Also in the 60m hurdles, Tech's Tiana Davis ran a season-best time of 8.54 to finish 19th and recorded the fastest 60m hurdles time of any WAC athlete not named Antoinette Cobb. Davis also excelled in the long jump where she tied a season-best mark of 19' 7.5", another WAC best performance.

On the men's side, Green and Morris both ran season-best times to finish second and fourth, respectively, in the 800m run. Morris' time of 1:53.24 is the third-fastest in the WAC this season while Green's mark of 1:52.80 is half a second from matching the WAC leader.

In the men's 60m hurdles, Tech's Billy Walker finished 27th overall with a time of 8.02.
