Gotch, Maloney Claim Gold at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Louisiana Tech’s Jarvis Gotch and Tramaine Maloney both set meet records and claimed gold in the 60m dash and 60m hurdles, respectively, at Friday’s Samford Invitational held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Gotch set a new meet record and was the top finisher in the 60m dash after running a finals time of 6.71, a mark that ranks sixth in school history. He improved on his prelims-best time of 6.83 to maintain the top position in the finals.

Maloney set a meet record in the 60m hurdles with a prelims-best time of 7.92 and, despite running a finals time of 7.99, still withstood the competition to claim first place. His 7.92 prelims time ranks fifth in school history.

The Samford Invitational, a scored meet, had the Louisiana Tech men finishing seventh just three points behind Georgia, a Bulldogs program that ranks 10th in the nation. The women’s program finished ninth with 23 points, edging Liberty.

The Lady Techsters were led by Mia Adams, a redshirt senior that finished second in the long jump with a mark of 19-9.75 (6.04m) and sixth in the 200m, running 24.60.

Chloe Lautric registered a third-place finish with a high jump mark of 5-8.75 (1.75m) while Liza Wall threw the weight 58-1.25 (17.71m) to finish sixth.

But the most points for the women came in the triple jump as LA Tech finished 5-6-7. Denisha Henix led the way with a jump of 39-8 (12.09m) to place fifth, Laticia Watson was sixth with a mark of 39-1.75 (11.93m) and Janiel McDonald jumped 38-3.5 (11.67m) to place seventh.

 

 

For the men the most points came in the long jump as Tamario Lattin set a new personal best by over a food as he jumped 23-4.5 (7.12m) to finish third. Jarrett Samuels with a fifth-place jump of 22-11 (6.98m) while Craig Jones jumped 22-5 (6.83m) to finish eighth. Lattin would also finish seventh in the high jump with a height of 6-6.75 (2.00m).

Louisiana Tech will return to the Birmingham CrossPlex on Feb. 24-25 for the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
