BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Louisiana Tech racked up three medals in the final day of competition -- led by Jermey Hicks winning gold in the 60m dash -- as action wrapped up Thursday evening at the 2016 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham.

Hicks ran 6.70 in the finals to win the race and claim the gold medal a day after tying the C-USA meet record with a prelims time of 6.64. He followed that up with a sixth place finish in the 200m just 45 minutes later, running a personal best 21.41.

That helped the men's team to a fourth place finish overall, tied with North Texas with 59 points. Western Kentucky won the men's team title with 135 points while UTSA (120 points) was second and Middle Tennessee (113.5 points) finished third. The women's team also ended a tie, scoring 34 points to equal UAB for seventh place. UTEP won the women's team title while WKU finished second and Rice placed third.

Devin Henderson finished seventh in the 60m with a time of 6.98 while Jarvis Gotch, who strained a hamstring Wednesday, limped to an eighth place finish with a time of 10.11. Henderson also finished ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 47-11.25 (14.61m).

In the 60m hurdles Tramaine Maloney ran a personal best time of 7.87 but was edged at the finish line by WKU's Vincent Wyatt. Maloney claimed silver while his time of 7.87 ranks second in school history. On the women's side, Bianca Jackson ran a season-best 8.50 to finish fifth.

Chloe Lautric also claimed a silver medal as her mark of 5-8.75 (1.75m) in the high jump placed her second. She was edged by WKU's Sandra Akachukwu's mark of 5-10 (1.78m) for the gold medal. Jasmine White jumped 5-5 (1.65m) in the high jump to place 11th.

The men's 4x400m relay may have gotten off to a slow start, trailing early in its heat, but the last two legs of Jarrett Samuels and Jaquvis Hart moved the Bulldogs from worst to first in their heat and ended with a time of 3:15.16, finishing fifth overall. The relay was led off by Drakarius Smith followed by Darius Statham.

The women's 4x400m relay finished sixth overall, running 3:48.03. The quartet of Diamond Every, Kirsten Johnson, Destiny Aaron and Brandi Dobbin edged Southern Miss by 0.31 seconds.

Aaron Orduno scored a point for the Bulldogs as he finished eighth in the men's shot put with a throw of 48-9.5 (14.87m) while Tristan Maughan threw 45-7 (13.89m) to finish 10th.

Janiel McDonald set a new personal record mark in the long jump by 20 inches as she finished eighth with a jump of 39-11.5 (12.18m). Laticia Watson, who finished ninth in the pentathlon Wednesday, jumped 39-3.75 (11.98m) to finish 10th.

Student-athletes now await the final national performance lists next week to see who will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, also to be held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, on March 11-12. Jarvis Gotch (long jump) and Jermey Hicks (60m) are two student-athletes that are in contention to qualify for the national meet.
