FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Louisiana Tech’s Kimberly Smith won the 60m dash and Kim Francis finished third in the 60m hurdles as the two Lady Techsters gave NCAA qualification one last shot in Fayetteville.
Smith’s finals time of 7.36 won the race but only matched her season best performance of an altitude-adjusted 7.36 ran at the WAC Championships on Feb. 23. She ran 7.42 in the prelims.
Francis finished third overall with a finals time of 8.44 in 60m hurdles after running 8.47 in the prelims. However, the Lafayette, La. native did not improve on her season best mark of 8.28, set at the WAC Championships on Feb. 22.
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on March 8-9 at the Randall Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. The final qualifiers are expected to be announced by Tuesday.
As it currently stands, Trey Hadnot on the men’s side is the only Tech athlete expected to qualify for the NCAA Championships. He is currently ranked ninth in the country in the 200m with a time of 20.81 ran at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 9.
Louisiana Tech will open the outdoor season by hosting the Jim Mize Invitational on March 16.
