LA Tech T&F Wraps Up Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON - Louisiana Tech’s track and field teams recorded several top finishes this past weekend as the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters competed at the 35th annual Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice in Houston.
Elia Nero represented Louisiana Tech well in the women’s 400-meter dash after finishing in fifth place with a time of 56.14. Brandi Dobbin also recorded a top 10 finish for the Lady Techsters after placing seventh in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.39.
In the women’s high jump, LA Tech senior Chloe Lautric recorded a second-place finish with a mark of 5-7.25 (1.72m) in the event, while Dominique Lewis finished 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 38-6.25 (11.74m).
Rhea Thompson led the Lady Techsters in the discus throw after placing fifth with a mark of 142-4 (43.39m), while LA Tech’s Asia Abron also placed ninth in the discus with a mark of 135-3 (41.22m) before finishing 10th in the women’s shot put with a final mark of 42-10.25 (13.06m). Morgan Keesee also competed in the discus, finishing 10th in the event with a mark of 134-1 (40.88m).
In the women’s hammer throw, Keesee recorded her second top 10 finish after coming in seventh place, recording a mark of 166-7 (50.77m) in the event, while Shelby Bishop’s top mark in the first field event on Friday was 131-1 (39.95m). Blake McMillian also competed in the hammer throw on the men’s side and placed 13th in the event with a mark of 138-0 (42.06m).
Camille Lott impressed for the second week in a row in the women’s javelin after finishing the event in the fourth place with a mark of 135-10 (41.41m), while Somer Miller placed 13th with a mark of 107-9 (32.84m).
On the men’s side, Darius Statham finished the 200-meter dash in 11th place with a time of 22.11, while Jordan Patrick finished in 15th place in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.41. Lanorris Graden impressed by recorded a second-place mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.30 in the event.
In the distance races, LA Tech’s Drake Heinz finished the men’s 5,000-meter run in 10th place with a time of 15:24.19, while Austin Ballow finished closely behind in 13th with a time of 15:29.20. In the 10,000-meter run, Manoah Kiptum came in second in the event with a time of 31:44.03.
In the jumps, Tamario Lattin finished in sixth place with a mark of 23-6 (7.16m) in the long jump, while Craig Jones’ final mark in the event was 21-0.25 (6.42m).
The shot put event on the men’s side, Isaac Samuels placed 10th with a mark of 46-6.75 (14.19m), while Jacob Cambre finished with a mark of 36-9.5 (11.21m). Samuels also finished the discus throw finals in seventh place with a mark of 160-1 (48.79m).
In the men’s javelin throw, Tyler Griggers finished the competition in fifth place with a final mark of 187-1 (57.03m).
Next week, the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where the two squads will compete in the Southern Miss Invitational at the Marshall Bell Track Complex.
