SAN FRANCISCO - Louisiana Tech distance runner Paul Sakit set a new personal record in the 5,000m run by over 36 seconds as Tech’s distance runners competed in the San Francisco State Distance Carnival in the Bay City area in California Saturday.

Sakit ran 14:18.75 to finish 12th overall, a time that ranks eighth in the nation, amongst an incredibly challenging field. Of the top 5k times in the nation this year, six of the top 10 (including Sakit’s time) were set at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

His mark is believed to be the fastest 5k time for a Louisiana Tech runner since Pat Cross ran 14:15.32 in 1980.

Also out in San Francisco, Matt Wolfe finished 11th in the 1,500m with a time of 3:54.81 while Tom Stringer ran 4:02.38 to place 41st.
