LA Tech Track & Field Wraps Up Southern Miss Invitational

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's track and field teams recorded more than 30 top 10 finishes this weekend, including five first place at Saturday's Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
In the women's running events, LA Tech's 4x100-meter relay team, made up of Brandi Dobbin, Ona Giles, Janiel McDonald and Morgan White, took home first place with a time of 46.83. McDonald also recorded a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.66, while Dobbin ran the 400-meter dash in 55.75 to place fourth in the event.
The women's 100-meter dash saw two Lady Techsters in the top 10 as Giles finished with a time of 12.31 to place sixth, while Morgan White came in ninth place with a final time of 12.48. LA Tech also had three top 10 times in the women's distance races with Kacie Kaufman finishing in fourth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.06, while Quinci Middlebrooks finished ninth after running a time of 2:38.04. In the 1,500-meter race, Elia Nero ran a time of 4:47.36 to finish the event in fourth place overall.
On the men's side, Drake Heinz raced in both the 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs, while finishing in the top 10 in both events. He placed second overall in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:00.36, while finishing the 800-meter run in sixth place with a time of 1:56.37. LA Tech also had three other Bulldogs place in the top 10 runners in the 1,500-meter run, including Manoah Kiptum (4th -- 4:05.72), Brandon Lewis-Graham (6th -- 4:09.62) and Austin Ballow (7th -- 4:09.91).
The men's field events saw Jordan Patrick finish fourth in the long jump with a mark of 21-10 (6.65m), while the sophomore also finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.38) on the running side. Jacob Cambre also competed in the long jump and finished seventh with a mark of 20-4.25 (6.20m).
Tamario Lattin recorded a first place finish in the men's high jump with a mark of 6-9.5 (2.07m), while Tyler Griggers also took home first in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 195-11 (59.72m). Isaac Samuels placed second in the shot put with a mark of 47-7.25 (14.51m), while also finishing in sixth place in the discus throw with a mark of 155-5 (47.37m).
In the women's field events, Camille Lott recorded another first place finish in the javelin with a throw of 142-7 (43.47m), while the women's high jump also saw another Lady Techster take home first place with Chloe Lautric jumping 5-7 (1.70m) in the high jump. Maggie Hermann also place fourth in the women's javelin with a mark of 109-10 (33.47m), while Jasmine White placed fourth in the high jump (5-3) and Dominique Lewis finished sixth in the long jump (17-1.50).
Morgan Keesee finished in fourth place in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 171-1 (52.15m), while Rhea Thompson finished fourth in the shot put (43-9.25) and fifth in the discus (136-11) on Saturday. Asia Abron also had a throw of 129-2 (39.36m) to place sixth in the women's discus.
Next weekend, Louisiana Tech will travel to compete in the Stephen F. Austin Invitational on April 7-8 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
