LA Tech Track & Field Record Several Top Marks at SFA Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Louisiana Tech's track and field teams impressed at this weekend's 2017 Stephen F. Austin Carl Kight Invitational as the men and women combined to record seven first place finishes at Fletcher Garner Track in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Overall, the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters combined to record more than 30 top 10 finishes this weekend, which marks the second week in a row the two teams have accomplished that feat.
On the women's side, LA Tech's Janiel McDonald showed out throughout the competition after finishing in first place in both the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13:98 and the long jump with a mark of 20-0.25 (7.25m).
LA Tech also dominated the men's 5,000-meter run this weekend with three top 10 finishes by the Bulldogs, including first place for Drake Heinz (14:49.58), third for Austin Ballow (14:56.70) and sixth for Manoah Kiptum (15:02.39). Another distance runner for the Bulldogs also finished in the top 10 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as Nathan Bolner recorded a time of 10:13.42 to place ninth.
Lanorris Graden recorded another first place finish for the men in the running events with a final time of 52.89 in the men's 400-meter hurdles, while Brandi Dobbin placed third in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.81. In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Morgan White placed sixth with a time of 12.12, while Michael Pratt also finished sixth in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.50.
In the women's 800-meter run, LA Tech's Elia Nero completed a first place finish in the event with a time of 2:11.37, while Ona Giles rounded out the running events for the women by placing third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.60.
The field events saw more than 10 different LA Tech student-athletes finish in the top 10, beginning with Tamario Lattin, who placed first in the men's triple jump with a mark of 47-0.25 (14.33m) before finishing in fourth place in the long jump with a jump of 23-9.5 (7.25m).
The javelin competition saw two LA Tech athletes finish in the top 10, one of the men's side and the other in the women's event. Tyler Griggers finished the men's javelin in second place with a throw of 189-6 (57.77m), while Somer Miller placed fourth on the women's side with a mark of 114-3 (34.82m).
Rhea Thompson recorded two top 10 finishes in the throwing events after placing third in the women's shot put with a throw of 43-6.5 (13.27m), while also finishing eighth in the discus with a mark of 133-8 (40.74m). In the men's discus, Isaac Samuels placed sixth with a throw of 165-11 (50.57m), while also finishing seventh in the shot put with a mark of 48-1.75 (14.67m).
Morgan Keesee wrapped up the impressive finishes for LA Tech in the field events with a throw of 170-2 (51.87m) in the women's hammer throw.
This weekend's decathlon saw two entries for the Bulldogs as Jordan Patrick finished the competition in third place with a total of 6,341 points, while Jacob Cambre finished in eighth with 5,272 points.
Louisiana Tech returns to action in two weeks as the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters are set to travel to compete in the annual LSU Alumni Gold on April 22 in Baton Rouge.
