Ballard, Orduno, Carey Claim Wins at Demon Invitational

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Louisiana Tech's Gregory Ballard won the pole vault and Aaron Orduno notched wins in the shot put and hammer throw Saturday as Tech sent a portion of its team to the Demon Invitational in Natchitoches.
Most of the athletes competing in Saturday's meet were athletes that did not compete at either the Texas Relays or the Florida Relays with the meet in Natchitoches giving them an opportunity to compete for the first time since the Jim Mize Invitational on March 20-21.
Ballard won the pole vault with a height of 14-7.25 (4.45m), matching the mark that he won the Jim Mize Invitational with.
Orduno claimed two wins on the day with a shot put throw of 50-6 (15.39m) and a hammer throw mark of 178-3 (54.33m). The senior also finished third in the discus with a throw of 154-0 (46.93m).
On the women's side, Laticia Watson registered a pair of runner-up finishes with a long jump mark of 18-4.25 (5.60m) and a triple jump mark of 38-4.75 (11.70m).
Calishia Mendoza finished fourth in both the 100m (12.67) and 200m (26.03) dashes.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on April 18 at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge.
