Lashannda Worthy, Men's Hurdles Lead Louisiana Tech at LSU Alumni Gold Track Meet Saturday

BATON ROUGE, La. - Lashannda Worthy ran a personal best time of 54.72 in the 400m and helped the women's 4x400m relay team run a season best mark while Billy Ray Walker and Marcelles Atkinson swept the 400m hurdles highlighting a successful day at the LSU Alumni Gold Track Meet for Louisiana Tech.
Worthy's time of 54.72 in the 400m is a personal record as she finished third in the second division of the race. Worthy also ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay team that ran a season best time of 3:36.20 to finish fourth. Monique Wright, who ran the second leg of that 4x400m relay team, ran a season best time of 54.99 in the first division of the 400m, placing 12th.
The top marks by Worthy and Wright headlined a handful of season and personal best marks set by Lady Techster athletes Saturday. Chasidee Lewis-Baker ran a season best 100m dash time of 11.53, finishing second. The 4x100m relay team also ran a season best mark with the quartet of Antoinette Cobb, Quanisha Sales, Chelsea Hayes and Lewis-Baker running 45.05 to finish fourth.
On the men's side, Billy Ray Walker and Marcelles Atkinson swept the hurdles races. Walker ran 14.44 in the 110m hurdles to win while Atkinson ran 52.62 to claim the 400m hurdles title with Walker finished fourth with a time of 53.48. Wade MaGaha also finished in the top 10 in the 400m hurdles, running 54.05 to finish seventh.
In the men's track events, a pair of Bulldogs set personal record times in the 800m. Alwayne Green finished sixth with a time of 1:52.57 and Jermaine Morris ran 1:53.13 to place seventh as both posted personal-best marks. Meanwhile, freshman Matt Wolfe continued to excel, running the 1,500m in 3:53.66 to finish fifth. Senior Albert Fullwood ran a season best time of 20.93 in the 200m dash to finish seventh.
In the field events, the women had a pair of personal record marks set in the shot put. Micarra Vassell's throw of 48' 6.25" placed her fourth while Marcella LeBlanc finished 11th with a throw of 43' 5.25".
Larry Jones finished ninth in the javelin with a season best mark of 203' 10" while Justin Martin finished 10th, throwing 197' 7". Jones also finished third in the discus with a throw of 176' 8" and 11th in the shot put with a mark of 50' 5.5".
Louisiana Tech will next be in competition as a split squad on April 16-17 with one group heading to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the other group headed to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
