Chelsea Hayes Shatters School Record at LSU Alumni Gold Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. - New Orleans native Chelsea Hayes shattered the school record in the 100m dash and recorded the second-best long jump in school history as Louisiana Tech's track and field programs made a strong showing at the LSU Alumni Gold meet Saturday.
Hayes ran 11.18 in the 100m dash, shattering the previous record of 11.30 set by Latonia Wilson in 2007 and matched by Hayes at the Texas Relays this season. Her time of 11.18 is only five-hundredths of a second from tying a Western Athletic Conference record and currently ranks her 11th in the nation. Hayes also ran on the 4x100m relay team alongside Chasidee Lewis-Baker, Stacia Hanneman and Monique Wright that placed fourth with a time of 45.27.
The New Orleans native jumped 20-8.5 in the long jump invitational to place second overall, the second longest jump in school history. Teammate Tiana Davis finished fifth with a jump of 20-4.5, the fifth-best jump in school history and only half an inch from a personal record mark.
Billy Ray Walker won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.06 while Kendall Hayes finished fifth with a time of 14.52.
Ruston native Trey Hadnot finished second in the 200m with a personal record time of 21.15, beating his previous personal best mark by two-hundredths of a second.
In the 800m run, Alwayne Green placed second with a time of 1:53.68 while Jermaine Morris ran a season-best 1:54.39 to finish fourth.
Former Tech athlete Jason Morgan won the discus with a throw of 199-3.
In other women's field events, Quatisha Williams finished fifth in the invitational triple jump with a mark of 40-7.5. In the open triple jump, Brittany Guy finished fourth with a time of 40-3.5 while Sapphira Brown placed sixth with a jump of 39-4.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on April 27-28 as Tech heads to the Drake Relays, one of the premier meets held in the country.
