RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech’s track and field program claimed seven event wins as the men and women wrapped up the 2012 outdoor regular season at the Golden Eagle Classic hosted by Southern Miss Saturday.
Olivia Lukasewich ran 2:19.15 in the 800m to win her first race of the season. The former Lady Techster soccer player joined the track team in her final year of college and will play professional soccer at the conclusion of her collegiate career.
The Techster relays swept in Hattiesburg with the 4x100m relay winning with a time of 44.43 while the 4x400m relay won with a time of 3:47.29. The 4x100m quartet of Kimberly Smith, Chelsea Hayes, Stacia Hanneman and Victoria Wade ran a season-best time and a mark ranked 15th in the NCAA East performance list.
Smith and Wade also ran in the 200m dash with Smith finished second with a time of 24.41 and Wade placing fourth with a time of 24.64. Kenyattia Hackworth split the two to finish third with a time of 24.59 while Kim Francis ran 24.78 to finish fifth.
Francis also claimed an event win on the day, finishing first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.11.
Coming close to a pair of wins was Micara Vassell as she placed second in the shot put (49-4.5, 15.05m) and the discus (160-4, 48.87m).
Kendall Hayes placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.77. He also ran 11.12 in the 100m dash to finish 17th.
Louisiana Tech travels to Moscow, Idaho next week to compete in the 2012 WAC Outdoor Championships as the women’s team looks to win its eighth consecutive outdoor conference title.
