@LATechTandF Sweeps Long Jumps at Jace LaCoste Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Call it a clean sweep for Louisiana Tech’s long jumpers. Both Jarrett Samuels and Mia Adams finished the day atop the podium after the long jumps as LA Tech competed a the Mississippi State-hosted Jace LaCoste Invitational at the Mike Sanders Track Complex in Starkville Saturday.

Samuels began the line of Louisiana Tech student-athletes to the top of the podium as he jumped 24-6.25 (7.47m) to win the men’s long jump as he edged Mississippi State’s Willie Reed by 1.25 inches.

Adams’ long jump mark of 19-5.5 (5.93m) also marked a win over a host Mississippi State jumper as she finished 2 inches better than Leah Lott. Janiel McDonald followed Lott as her mark of 18-11.75 (5.78m) placed her third.

Tramaine Maloney also finished the day atop the podium as his 110m hurdles time of 14.03 was the best in the field, beating Hinds’ Christian Boyd by 0.07 seconds and beating UL-Lafayette’s Tyler Hughes by almost 0.3 seconds.

Several other Tech student-athletes came close to reaching the top of the podium. Camille Lott finished as the runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 133-8 (40.75m) while Brandi Dobbin was second in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:00.36. Daphney Campebell followed in the 400m hurdles, running 1:03.55 to finish eighth.

Jermey Hicks posted a season-best time of the 200m as he ran 20.88 to finish third, just 0.06 seconds behind Mississippi State’s Rodrigo Rocha.

 

 

Meanwhile in the women’s hurdles Bianca Jackson ran a season-best time of 13.76 to finish fourth while McDonald finished seventh, running 14.10.

Tamario Lattin jumped 6-6.75 (2.00m in the high jump while also jumping 23-1.25 (7.04m) to place sevnth in the long jump.

Louisiana Tech now turns its attention to the Conference USA Championships set for May 12-15 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
