MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Jordan Patrick set two new personal best marks Thursday and finished the halfway point of the decathlon in seventh place as action at the 2016 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships got to a wet, delayed start in Murfreesboro.

The league championship meet, scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, was delayed more than two hours as inclement weather passed through Tennessee.

Patrick notched a new career best in the shot put with a throw of 33-1.75 (10.10m) midway through the day while running a personal best 51.43 in the 400m to wrap up Thursday’s competition.

He also ran 11.66 in the 100m dash to open the delayed action and followed that with a 21-4 (6.50m) mark in the long jump, a quarter-inch from matching a personal best. He also posted a mark of 5-10.75 (1.80m) in the high jump.

Patrick, a redshirt freshman, finished the day with 3,285 points and is only 209 points away from fourth place in a competitive competition. Atsu Nyamadi of 25th-ranked and host Middle Tennessee leads the decathlon with 4,021 points scored.

A native of Arkansas, Patrick set the Louisiana Tech school record in the decathlon by scoring 5,701 points earlier this season at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

The decathlon is comprised of 10 separate events spread over two days of competition with point values awarded based upon the time or mark set in competition. Friday will witness the final five events of competition with the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and wrapping up with the 1,500m run.

Action in Murfreesboro is scheduled to resume at 1:30 p.m. Friday, weather permitting. A free, live broadcast of all four days of the C-USA Championship is available on the C-USA Digital Network while live results are available at
