Laticia Watson Finishes 10th in Heptathlon
May 15, 2015
EL PASO, Texas - Laticia Watson scored the fifth-most points in the heptathlon in Louisiana Tech history - 4,449 - and jumped UAB's Ali Meister in the final event to finish 10th as the second day of action at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships came to a close late Friday night in El Paso.
Watson was hot on the heels of Meister but it took until the final event in the seven-event competition - the 800m - for the Louisiana Tech junior to leapfrog the Blazer. Meister finished with 4,431 points, just 18 shy of Watson.
Her 4,449 points in the heptathlon ranks fifth in school history and she recorded a 10th-place finish in her first heptathlon competition. Watson opened up Friday's competition with a jump of 18-1.5 (5.52m) in the long jump and followed that with a javelin throw of 77-9 (23.69m). She rounded out the competition with a time of 2:39.03 in the 800m
