MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Tramaine Maloney claimed silver and three Louisiana Tech student-athletes claimed bronze as action wrapped up at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships late Sunday in Murfreesboro.

Maloney ran 14.13 in the finals of the 110m hurdles for the silver medal, edged by WKU’s Vincent Wyatt’s time of 13.95. Maloney, a senior transfer from Texas Tech, had entered the week ranked first in the league.

Jermey Hicks also had his sights set on gold as he entered the week leading Conference USA in the 100m dash but settled for bronze after running 10.47 in the finals. WKU’s Kyree King ran 10.41 to win gold while FIU’s Alton Eliphar ran 10.46 for silver.

Overall Louisiana Tech’s women finished 11th after scoring 30 points, beating UAB by one point, while Marshall scored 31 points total. Rice won the women’s team title with 136 points scored while host Middle Tennessee was the runner-up, scoring 129.5 points.

On the men’s side, LA Tech scored 38.5 points to finish 10th while Southern Miss, which trailed the Bulldogs entering the 4x400m relay and won the race to jump Tech, finished ninth with 46 points. WKU scored 148 points to claim the team championships while No. 25 Middle Tennessee was the runner-up with 123 points. The meet marked the first time since 1982 that Louisiana Tech (men or women combined) has not brought home a gold medal in an individual event.

Athletes now await the NCAA East Preliminary Championship Qualifying List to see who will have the chance to compete in the NCAA postseason later this month in Jacksonville, Florida. The top 48 individuals and top 24 relays in the East will qualify for the postseason.
