HOUSTON - Louisiana Tech's Aaron Orduno scored the first points of the meet for the Bulldogs as he finished fourth in the hammer as action was underway Friday at the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Thanks to Orduno's five points scored in the hammer, the Bulldogs ended the day in seventh place with five points, just ahead of FIU's three points and on the heels of Tulsa's 10 points.
Orduno's throw of 181-0 (55.17m) placed him fourth as the junior scored five points for LA Tech. He stayed true to form with the fourth place finish as he entered the meet ranked fourth in the league in the hammer throw.
Aprell Williams also stayed true to form as she finished 17th in the hammer on the women's side, the same spot she was ranked in the league entering this week's championship meet. Williams' threw 144-7 (44.08m) in the hammer to claim the 17th spot.
Josh Pearce ran 32:53.43 in the 10,000m run as he claimed 12th place.
Most of the action at the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships gets underway Saturday beginning with the long jump at 3 p.m. while running events begin with the 1,500m prelims at 5 p.m.
