2012 NCAA East Preliminary Track & Field Championships
May 24, 2012
Hodges Stadium, Jacksonville, Fla.

Redshirt senior Chelsea Hayes and freshman Kenyattia Hackworth both advanced to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa in the long jump.

Chelsea Hayes finished first at the East prelims with a Hodges Stadium facility record jump of 21-10.25 (6.66m). She only made one jump in the competition. Hayes passed on her second and third opening round jumps in order to run in a preliminary heat of the 100-meter dash. Hayes elected to pass on all three finals jump attempts as she remained in first place.

Hayes also advanced the next round in the 100-meter dash with a heat-winning time of 11.56, her slowest 100m time this year.

Louisiana Tech's Kenyattia Hackworth finished fifth in the long jump and became the only freshman from the East prelims to advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Hackworth only made two jumps, scratching her first attempt after fearing she had fouled it.
