Kim Francis, Men's Relay Punch Tickets to Eugene
May 25, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Louisiana Tech added another hurdler and the men’s 4x100m relay to its list of athletes that have punched their tickets to Eugene as both advanced to the NCAA Championships Saturday as action wrapped up at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships at Irwin Belk Track.
Kim Francis, who set the school record in the 100m hurdles at the WAC Championships two weeks ago, ran 13.27 in the quarterfinal round to finish 11th overall. She will advance to the semifinal round at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 5-8.
Joining Francis will be the men’s 4x100m relay as the squad of Devin Henderson, Trey Hadnot, Niko Richey and Dennis Richardson ran the 10th fastest time in school history to advance. The quartet’s mark of 39.71 moves them out of the NCAA East quarterfinal round and into the NCAA Championships in two weeks.
Hadnot also ran in the quarterfinal round of the 200m, but failed to finish and ends his season in the event where he won bronze at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this year.
In the women’s shot put, Marcella LeBlanc led a trio of Tech throwers as she finished 16th with a throw of 51-4.25 (15.65m). Micara Vassell finished 25th with a mark of 49-3.75 (15.03m) while SaBrittany Angelle threw 45-5 (13.84m) to place 40th overall as all three ended their season while LeBlanc and Vassell completed their collegiate eligibility.
Francis and the men’s 4x100m relay team join Yusuf Muhammad (400m hurdles) in representing Louisiana Tech at the 2013 NCAA Championships on June 5-8 at Historic Heyward Field in Eugene, Ore.
