2012 NCAA East Preliminary Championships
Louisiana Tech’s 4x100-meter relay ran a school record time of 44.11 Saturday and finished second in its heat to automatically advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The team, ranked sixth entering the East prelims, finished with the third overall fastest time behind LSU (43.26) and Ohio State (43.98). The relay legs were comprised of Kimberly Smith, Chelsea Hayes, Stacia Hanneman and Victoria Wade.
With the 4x100-meter relay advancing, Chelsea Hayes will now be competing in three events in Des Moines – the 100-meter dash, long jump and the 4x100-meter relay.
Kim Francis advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 100-meter hurdles by the slimmest of margins. Her time of 13.40 (13.391) edged out Central Florida’s Karessa Farley by four-thousandths of a second (0.004).
