Redshirt senior Chelsea Hayes On advancing to the 100m finals: “I felt relieved. Knowing that I had finished in the top two in my heat, I didn’t have to wait and see if my time was fast enough to advance. I was just relieved and happy that I am back to running the times I normally run.” On nervous before the race: “I wasn’t really nervous but I just wanted to stay positive. If I felt I was going to be nervous, I probably would have messed my start up a little bit so I just tried to stay relaxed and work on what we have been practicing.” On her start: “I actually had a good start. One of the things I struggle with is my start but I felt I got off to a good start and was there with English Gardner from Oregon, who is one of the top runners in the country. When I knew that I was in a race with her I knew I was good so I just tried to keep running.” On doing well after a disappointing 4x100m relay: “I was disappointed in the 4x1! Kimberly [Smith], who is our first leg, was out and we just had to change it up real quick. I knew [in the 100m dash] I would just have to go out there and make it in the 100m so I can represent Louisiana Tech in the finals. On having plenty of time for the long jump: “I will have a lot of time [for the long jump], something I am not used to. I am pretty happy that tomorrow I only have to focus on the long jump and I don’t have to worry about going to the 100m and making it to the finals in that also.”
