Louisiana Tech Athletes Compete on First Day of NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Kamelia Stroy ran 54.65 in the national semifinals of the 400m dash and Albert Fullwood placed 19th in the 400m dash to close his illustrious career as Louisiana Tech opened up competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus Wednesday.

Stroy finished 18th overall as she ran 54.65 in the semifinals of the 400m. A senior from Shreveport, La., Story was the only athlete from the state of Louisiana to advance to the national semifinals in the 400m. She will also compete in the 4x400m relay later this week.

Fullwood, who never lost a WAC title in the 400m, was one of four student-athletes from non-BCS schools to advance to the nationa semifinals and ran 47.08 to finish 19th overall. Only one athlete from a non-BCS school finished higher than Fullwood as the C.E. Byrd product brought a close to his illustrious Louisiana Tech career.

Ruston native Larry Jones was the only other Tech athlete to compete on the first day of the NCAA Championships Wednesday, placing 22nd in the discus with a throw of 162-8.

Action at the NCAA Championships continues on Thursday with Tech's Billy Ray Walker competing in the 110m hurdles Thursday evening at 7:35 p.m. CT.
