EUGENE, Ore. - Entering the weekend ranked 34th in the nation, Louisiana Tech's women's 4x400m relay team out ran some of the top relay teams in the nation to finish 15th at the NCAA Championships held at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field Thursday.

The Lady Techster relay team used its most decorated athlete, the quartet's alternate, to top higher-ranked programs such as 19th ranked Southern California and 27th ranked South Carolina. The relay team of Kamelia Story, alternate Antoinette Cobb, Lashannda Worthy and Monique Wright ran 3:39.77 to finish 15th.

The race marked the first time Cobb has run the 4x400m relay this year. Usually a hurdler, Cobb reached the NCAA semifinals for the second consecutive year after qualifying in the 100m hurdles last year. She is set to be honored by American Honda later this month in Los Angeles where she will be awarded the 22nd Annual Honda Inspiration Award, the first time a student-athlete from the Western Athletic Conference or the state of Louisiana has received the award.

Three of the four legs of Tech's 4x400m relay team are in their final year of eligibility with only anchor leg Wright returning next year. Both Stroy and Worthy have concluded their senior years while Cobb has concluded her fifth year of eligibility.

Billy Ray Walker made an even more impressive underdog finish, running 13.99 in the 110m hurdle national semifinals to place 17th overall despite entering the weekend ranked 90th in the country. Walker has ran a sub-14 second time only three times in his career with all three coming at the 2010 NCAA Championship series which began with the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

Competition at the NCAA Championships continues Friday and the final Louisiana Tech athlete to compete will do so on Saturday when Tiana Davis will vie for the long jump title.
