RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech men's and women's track and field programs open the 2014 season Friday as the two programs will compete at the UAB Blazer Invitational. The two day meet will be held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Louisiana Tech will face several Conference USA schools (Charlotte, FIU, Middle Tennessee, UAB) as well as several national powers (Florida State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, etc.) in the meet. Live stats and results will be available at LATechSports.com.
Senior Trey Hadnot will lead the men's program a year after he finished third at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 200m, claiming First Team All-America honors. Hadnot will run in the 300m dash Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Yusuf Muhammad, a senior that advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season in the 110m hurdles, will compete in the 500m dash on Friday at 6:30 p.m. while all-Western Athletic Conference hurdler Kendall Hayes will run in the 60m hurdles on Friday at 4 p.m.
On the women's side, Aldresha Bailey will join Diamond Every in leading the Lady Techsters in the 300m dash. Last season, Bailey anchored the women's 4x400m relay that won the WAC title in dramatic fashion, coming from behind to claim the gold medal. That race is slated to begin Friday at 7 p.m.
All-conference hurdler Kim Francis will lead the Lady Techsters in the 60m hurdles as she occupies lane four in the third of six heats. That hurdles competition, which also has Marlesia Carey and Bianca Jackson competing in other heats, will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday.
