LA Tech T&F Travels to Compete at Texas A&M Indoor Event

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech Track & Field is set to compete for the first time in 2018 as the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters travel to compete in the Texas A&M Ted Nelson Invitational on Friday, Jan. 12 in College Station, Texas.

This weekend’s indoor meet, which will be LA Tech’s second of the season after the team competed in the A-State Kickoff Klassic in December, will be held at the p Indoor Track & Field Stadium at McFerrin Athletic Center on the campus of Texas A&M.

LA Tech’s men and women will compete in 14 running events and 12 field events over the course of the afternoon on Friday. Field events are scheduled to begin at noon Friday with running finals starting at 1:30 p.m. The 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdle preliminaries will begin at noon on Friday. “We are really excited to be starting the season off at a great track and field venue,” head coach Gary Stanley, who is in his 36th overall year at Louisiana Tech, said prior to the team’s first indoor meet of 2018. “We have several freshmen competing in Friday’s meet and we are going into it expecting some good results to open the year.”

A total of 40 Louisiana Tech student-athletes will compete in the 2018 Ted Nelson Invitational with 21 on the women’s squad and 19 Bulldogs scheduled to compete on the men’s side. Sixteen of LA Tech’s 40 athletes that will compete this weekend are true freshmen.

LA Tech will be competing in a field with 13 additional track & field programs in this weekend’s Ted Nelson Invitational, including Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, North Texas, Northwestern State, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, UTRGV, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe.
