LA Tech Track & Field Opens Indoor Season Friday at Texas A&M

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's men's and women's indoor track and field teams are gearing up to kick off the 2017 season Friday when the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters travel to compete in the Texas A&M Aggie Team Invitational at Gilliam Indoor Stadium in College Station.

LA Tech's men and women will compete in 14 running events and 11 field events over the course of the day. Field events are scheduled to begin at noon Friday with running finals starting at 1:30 p.m. Fans can follow along with all the action from Texas A&M's campus as live results will be available at www.flashresults.com.

Chloe Lautric and Jasmine White will get things started for LA Tech Friday by competing in the women's high jump, while Gregory Ballard and Daniel Sams will also compete in the men's pole vault starting at noon. Freshman Alies van Berkum will represent the women in the pole vault beginning at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The long jump event also begins at noon Friday with senior Denisha Henix set to compete on the women's side, while Craig Jones, Tamario Lattin and Jordan Patrick will represent LA Tech on the men's side.

In the weight throw, LA Tech will have four women competing, including Asia Abron, Shelby Bishop, Morgan Keesee and Rhea Thompson. For the men's weight throw, Chris London will represent the Bulldogs beginning at 1 p.m. Friday.

 

 

LA Tech's Asia Abron and Rhea Thompson will compete in the women's shot put beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, while Jacob Cambre, Jordan Patrick and Isaac Samuels will compete in the men's shot put later in the afternoon Friday at 3 p.m.

The final two field events on Friday will be the triple jump on both the men's and women's sides beginning at 3 p.m. For the women, LA Tech will be represented by Henix and a pair of sophomores in Dominique Lewis and Anji Garcia-Solis. LA Tech's Lattin will represent the Bulldogs and compete in the men's long jump.

In the running events, the 60-meter preliminaries are set to begin at noon Friday with a total of six LA Tech men and women competing in the 60-meter dash. Ona Giles, Alexis Hyshaw, Autym Scales and Morgan White will represent the women, while Jacob Cambre and Jermey Hicks will compete on the men's side. In 2016, Hicks claimed gold at the Conference USA Indoor Championships and earned second team All-America honors following his performance in the 60-meter dash. Eight runners in each event will advance to the finals, including the top finisher in each heat and the next two best times.

In the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries, Scales will represent the women, while Patrick will compete on the men's side for Louisiana Tech, with both events scheduled to begin at 12:25 p.m. and 12:40 p.m., respectively.

In the women's 1-mile run, sophomore Kacie Kaufman will represent Louisiana Tech starting at 1:30 p.m. Friday, while Austin Ballow, Drake Heinz and Conner Killian will compete in the men's 1-mile race immediately following the conclusion of the women's run.

Brandi Dobbin and Elia Nero will run in the women's 400-meter dash Friday, while the men's 400-meter race will feature LA Tech's Edjim Beaver, Chris Brausell and Lanorris Graden.

Louisiana Tech will have three student-athletes competing in the 800-meter run with Hayley Berg and Quinci Middlebrooks representing the women, while Scott Maggio will compete in the men's 800-meter run Friday afternoon.

Two of LA Tech's women, Hyshaw and Giles, will compete in the 200-meter dash Friday in College Station, while the men will be represented by Darius Statham and Andrew Bradberry.

To wrap up a full day of events, Manoah Kiptum will race in the men's 3,000-meter run, while Chris Brausell, Lanorris Graden, Jermey Hicks and Darius Statham will face off together in the final event of the day, the men's 4x400-meter relay starting at 5:10 p.m. Friday.

LA Tech will be competing in a field with 12 other programs in this weekend's Aggie Team Invitational, including Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M -- Corpus Christi, Texas A&M -- Kingsville, Texas Southern, UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe, and UT Rio Grande Valley.
