Tech Women Ranked Ninth in USTFCCCA South Central Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Louisiana Tech's women's track and field program is ranked ninth in the South Central Region as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday. The Lady Techsters have three athletes ranked in the regional rankings.
All-American Chelsea Hayes is ranked fourth in the region in the 60m dash with a time of 7.41 while Micara Vassell is ranked fifth in the shot put with a throw of 49-6.25 (15.09m). Kenyattia Hackworth is also ranked as her long jump of 19-5.25 (5.92m) places sixth in the region.
The Lady Techsters are ahead of regional foes SMU (10th), UT Arlington (11th), Tulane (13th), UTSA (14th).
On the men's side, Kendall Hayes is ranked fifth in the region in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.06 and Tech's distance medley relay team is ranked sixth with a time of 10:18.00. The Bulldogs are ranked 18th in the region.
The South Central region encompasses Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.
LA Tech has only competed in one meet so far this indoor season, the Blazer Invitational on Jan. 12-13 in Birmingham, Ala. In a change of the team's originally announced schedule, Tech will next compete at the ASTATE Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. on Jan. 27.
The WAC Indoor Championships are scheduled for Feb. 23-25 in Boise, Idaho where the Lady Techsters look to continue the program's dominance over the WAC. Louisiana Tech has won six of the last seven WAC Indoor Championship titles.
