LA Tech T&F Set for Sunday's Jaguar Invitational

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech Track & Field is set for its final tune-up of the indoor season before the Conference USA Championships when the men and women travel to compete in the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational on Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama.
This Sunday's meet marks the last regular season event of the indoor season before LA Tech competes in the 2018 C-USA Indoor Championships on Feb. 17-18 at the Birmingham CrossPlex, the same venue the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will compete at this weekend.
LA Tech's men and women will compete in an 18-team field on Sunday, while the squads are entered in a total of 14 running events and 12 field events over the course of the one-day meet. The Jaguar Invitational is set to begin at noon on Sunday with both running and field events that will continue throughout late that afternoon.

Louisiana Tech will have 42 student-athletes competing in this Sunday's Jaguar Invitational with 22 on the women's squad and 20 men scheduled to represent the Bulldogs to close out the weekend.
A week ago, Louisiana Tech recorded four first place finishes when the men and women competed in the Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas. LA Tech junior Kacie Kaufman broke another school record with a time of 18:17.48 in the women's 5,000m run, 55 seconds faster than the previous record-holder's time of 19:12.45, which was set in 1991 by Heather Culpepper. It marked the second straight competition Kaufman has broken a long-standing school record after the junior broke a 28-year-old record two weeks ago in the 3,000m run.
In addition to Kaufman's performance last weekend, LA Tech senior Tamario Lattin took home first place in the men's long jump with a mark of 25-0 (7.62m), while teammate Denzel Harper followed in second place with a jump of 24-3.5 (7.40m) on the day.
Louisiana Tech notched a total of 28 top 10 finishes combined in field and running events over the course of the Pittsburg State Invitational, including 17 top five finishes and four first place performances.
