RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's track and field programs will test themselves on the national stage this weekend at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., competing against over 25 BCS teams including some of the top programs in the country.

Tech is testing itself against national competition just two weeks prior to its annual conference test at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at the end of the month in Boise, Idaho. Host school Arkansas is expecting most of the Southeastern Conference track programs to participate in this weekend's meet along with several teams from the Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Big East and Pac-10 Conferences.

Despite a record snowfall on the ground in Arkansas and the University of Arkansas having cancelled classes on Thursday, the meet is still scheduled to run on time. Thursday morning, Fayetteville also set a new record low temperature to go with the 15 to 19 inches reported across the county.

The Tyson Invitational will be Tech's first meet since Jan. 22 when Chelsea Hayes won three events at the Arkansas State Invitational and was subsequently named the WAC Female Track Athlete of the Week.

This weekend's meet is the final meet of the 2011 regular season for indoor competition. Boise State hosts the WAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-26, which is the last opportunity for Tech athletes to gain provisional or automatic qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
